Cabin Campers campervan driving along a scenic mountain road in Norway.

The Cabin Campers Convoy

A hosted campervan road trip through Norway’s most spectacular landscapes

OSLO · THE MOUNTAINS · THE FJORDS · 8 DAYS · 7 NIGHTS

This isn’t a tour. It’s a road trip with friends you haven’t met yet.

The Cabin Campers Convoy is our first-ever hosted group road trip — and we’ve kept it deliberately small. Maximum 6 vans. Just you, your van, the open road, and a group of like-minded people discovering Norway together.

Over 8 days and 7 nights, we travel from Oslo through high mountain passes, along UNESCO-protected fjords, past thundering waterfalls and glacier lakes. Every campsite has been hand-picked. Every experience and dinner carefully researched and chosen for a reason. We’ve done all the planning so you don’t have to — and we’ll be right there with you the whole way.

EVERYTHING TAKEN CARE OF

You drive. We take care of the rest.

Not included: Fuel — budget approximately NOK 2,500–3,000 per van for the full route. Food and personal expenses.

Please note: Meals are not included outside of the two hosted dinners. You’ll cook and shop for yourself — one of the best parts of van life.

The route

From Oslo we head into the mountains, across one of Norway’s great high-altitude scenic drives, down into the world’s most famous fjord, along the glacier valleys of the west coast, through the Sognefjord and up over Northern Europe’s highest mountain pass — before finishing in a small mountain town known across Norway for its food culture.

✦ Get in touch and we’ll share the full day-by-day overview of the route. Finer details — campsites, restaurant bookings and timings — are shared with confirmed guests ahead of departure.

Day 1 — Oslo to the mountains

Approx. 3 hours driving

We meet in Oslo, pick up the vans, and head west. An easy, relaxed first day with a grocery stop along the way. First night at a well-loved campsite by the water — a proper warm-up for what’s ahead. Dinner together to go through the route and get to know each other.

Day 2 — The high mountain drive

Approx. 3 hours driving

One of Norway’s great drives. We cross a national scenic mountain route that reaches nearly 1,400 metres above sea level — wild reindeer country, open sky and an unforgettable horizon. Along the way: a stop at a local mountain producer for traditional Norwegian cheese, and lunch somewhere with a proper view. Night by a roaring waterfall deep in the mountains.

Day 3 — Into the fjord

Approx. 2 hours driving

A short drive with a dramatic arrival. The descent into the fjord village is one of Norway’s most iconic road moments — hairpin bends, waterfalls, and the fjord appearing far below. In the evening: a high-speed RIB boat safari into a UNESCO-listed fjord at golden hour. The waterfalls from the water are not something you forget easily. Night at a campsite set above the fjord beside a waterfall.

Day 4 — The ferry crossing

Approx. 75 km driving + 65 minutes sailing

A relaxed morning before we board the car ferry — one hour sailing straight through the heart of the UNESCO-protected fjord, past towering cliffs and famous waterfalls. From the other side we drive south along the Nordfjord to our next base: a campsite at the foot of a glacier valley, with some of the most impossibly turquoise water you’ll ever see right outside your van door.

Day 5 — A full day to explore

No driving — stay and discover

A whole day in one of Norway’s most beautiful corners, with no agenda and no alarm clock. Kayak on the lake, hike to a mountain farm with views that stretch forever, try the via ferrata, or simply read a book beside glacier water. In the evening we all come together for something special: a gondola ride up to a mountaintop restaurant 1,000 metres above the fjord — dinner with a view that’s genuinely hard to describe.

Day 6 — Along the world’s longest fjord

Approx. 2.5 hours

We drive south along the Sognefjord — the world’s longest and deepest fjord — with a lunch stop in a charming small town known for its bookshops and as the gateway to Europe’s largest mainland glacier. Night at a small family-run inn right on a national scenic route, where you fall asleep to the sound of waterfalls outside your window.

Day 7 — Over the mountain pass

Approx. 2 hours

The mountain pass. Northern Europe’s highest mountain road at 1,434 metres above sea level — the kind of drive that stays with you. We descend into a small mountain town famous across Norway for its food culture, its medieval stave church, and a glacial river so turquoise it doesn’t look real. The evening: a long, unhurried farewell dinner. Five courses of modern Norwegian mountain food, made with ingredients from the valley around you. One of the best meals you’ll eat in Norway.

Day 8 — Home

Approx. 4.5 hours back to Oslo

The drive home. We recommend one last coffee stop somewhere scenic before the city reappears. Vans returned in Oslo by afternoon.

Meet your hosts

We’re Michelle and Monica — two people who genuinely love Norway, love meeting new people, and have spent more time in vans than we’d care to admit.

Michelle

Michelle grew up in the Norwegian countryside and has spent a lot of her life outdoors — long hikes in the mountains, new trails, and that particular feeling of switching off completely when you’re surrounded by nature. She’s not a professional guide, but she’s someone who genuinely loves Norway and is continually surprised by how much this country has to offer. Growing up on narrow country roads and mountain tracks means she’s completely at ease behind the wheel wherever the route takes you — and her enthusiasm for what’s around the next bend is entirely real. She’s been with Cabin Campers since 2023 and is a mum of two.

Monica

Originally from Costa Rica, Monica found her way to Norway after marrying a Norwegian and has called it home for several years. She speaks English, Spanish, and enough Norwegian to charm her way into most situations. With a background in hotels and hospitality, plus years of experience as a traveller on group tours around the world, she knows how important the little details are when people travel together. She joined Cabin Campers in late 2025 and loves helping guests experience Norway in a relaxed, memorable way.

Together they’re warm, spontaneous, and genuinely enthusiastic about showing you their Norway — not the postcard version, but the real one.

Choose your van

Mid-size van
  Automatic gearbox

Compact, nimble, and easy to drive on Norway’s winding fjord roads — even with no previous experience driving larger vehicles. Warm wooden interior, full kitchen, comfortable double bed. The relaxed choice.

Large van
   Manual gearbox

More space and a proper cabin feel. This one requires a manual gearbox and some confidence with larger vehicles — Norway’s mountain passes and hairpin bends reward drivers who are at ease behind the wheel. Standard category B driving licence is all you need.

Not sure which to choose? Mention it when you get in touch — we’ll help you decide based on your experience and what feels right.

Good to know

How many vans on this trip?

Maximum 6. We’ve kept it small on purpose — this is a convoy, not a crowd. You’ll actually get to know the people you’re travelling with.

Do I need a special licence?

No. Both vans require a standard category B driving licence. The large van has a manual gearbox — some experience with bigger vehicles is helpful but not required. If in doubt, go for the mid-size automatic.

I’m travelling solo — can I join?

Yes. Pricing is per van. If you’d like to travel solo, reach out and we’ll see what we can arrange.

What about dietary requirements?

Please let us know when you get in touch. All restaurants on the route can accommodate most dietary needs with advance notice — we’ll make sure it’s sorted before the trip starts.

What if the weather is bad?

This is Norway in September — some rain is part of the deal. And honestly, fjords in the mist have their own kind of magic. We’ll adapt where we can, and there’s always a warm van and a good plan.

Do I need camping experience?

Not at all. All our campsites have proper facilities. Your van is your home for the week, and we’ll walk you through everything on day one.

Will I find out the full itinerary before I book?

We share the detailed day-by-day plan, campsite names and all logistics with confirmed guests. Send us a message and we’ll be happy to tell you more.

Ready to join the convoy?

Send us a message on WhatsApp — tell us which van you’re interested in, how many people, and any questions. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours.
